Verfluchte Liebe deutscher Film is an essayistic documentary by Dominik Graf and Johannes F. Sievert , completed in 2016 , which embarks on a journey of discovery into the forgotten German genre films and tells of the counter-movement to the New German Film and its influence on film culture. The documentary contains interviews with seventeen filmmakers, film critics and film historians.

Synopsis

The film is a documentary search for traces of the undiscovered German film history. An essay about the often forgotten German genre cinema, about audience-loving cinema that combines sensations and demands.

In the 1970s and 80s, a number of unusually physical and dirty films were made that said goodbye to the idyllically stylized post-war films and at the same time set themselves apart from their more intellectual contemporaries of New German Cinema. In interviews, prominent founders bring this forgotten chapter of German film history back to the screen and reflect on what ultimately led to its end.

production

The documentary uses film clips and photos together with current interviews with the filmmakers of the time.

The documentation was written and staged by Dominik Graf and Johannes F. Sievert. The film was produced for WDR and arte and funded by the Film- und Medienstiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen .

Verfluchte Liebe deutscher Film premiered at the 2016 Berlinale as part of the forum and was then shown at numerous festivals in Germany and abroad, such as the Festival del Film Locarno , the Shanghai International Film Festival , the festival of German film , the special Worthless Festival and others.

The film was nominated by the BVR for the Metropolis Directing Award 2016 in the category 'Best Documentary Director'.

The sequel Offene Wunde deutscher Film was shown for the first time at the Berlinale 2017 .
