Martin Gies

Martin Gies (born November 2, 1951 in Lüdenscheid ) is a German director and screenwriter .

Life

Martin Gies, the younger brother of the director Hajo Gies , graduated from the Kaiser-Karls-Gymnasium in Aachen in 1969 and then studied directing at the Munich University of Television and Film . From 1975 to 1979 he worked as a freelance writer . From 1979 to 1981 he was a dramaturge and film producer at Bavaria . Gies has been working as a freelance director since 1982 and, among other things, directed the film comedy Hellish Neighbors - Only women are worse in 1999 .

Martin Gies wrote several scripts for the crime series Tatort , including The Girl From Opposite (1977), The Delicatessen Dealer (1978) and Broken Blossoms (1988), which Hajo Gies directed. He provided the template for the Schimanski episode The Girl on the Staircase (1983) as well as for the Schimanski film Zabou (1986), the latter again directed by his brother.
