Suddenly Millionaire is a German television film by Martin Gies from 2008 with Uwe Steimle in the leading role. The film about a jobless bus driver who makes an inheritance contains elements of comedy and those of the family film.

action

On his tenth wedding anniversary, the petty bourgeois Benno Gütermann found out from his friend, colleague and neighbor Axel that both of their positions as bus drivers had been terminated because the bus route was no longer profitable. In vain do they come to their employer Brausewetter with a concept for reorganization. Immediately afterwards, however, Benno receives a notification from the notary that he has inherited one million euros from an aunt. He wants to invest this in the bus line and the only ailing bus so that he can continue to operate it together with his friend, and therefore wants to buy the rights and the bus from his former employer. The latter, however, suggested a deal that would involve trading in vintage cars, with which Benno could double his fortune within a year. He agrees and is shortly afterwards confronted by the public prosecutor with the fact that his assets transferred to a black account have been embezzled by his ex-employer and that the latter has fled. The bus and various consumer goods that have since been purchased on credit are confiscated. But Benno can finally buy back the bus by selling an expensive watch and together with his friend make the plan to save the bus line come true.

The film was produced by CineCentrum Deutsche Gesellschaft für Film- und Fernsehproduktion mbH for ARD Degeto . The song Friends Will Be Friends by the group Queen was used as the soundtrack . The location was Wernigerode . The bus is a vehicle from Geraer Fritz Fleischer KG .

Reviews

For Cinema it is a “[somewhat] simple mini-fairy tale for adults. Conclusion: inheritance bogus that skimp on ideas ”. Rainer Tittelbach writes about the "shallow" ARD Friday film: "Everything about this story was transparent until the good end."
