The great Rudolph (working title: Ich und R ) is a film satire by Alexander Adolph from 2018 with Thomas Schmauser in the role of the Munich fashion designer Rudolph Moshammer and Hannelore Elsner as his mother Else. The premiere took place on June 30, 2018 as part of the Munich Film Festival in the series Neues Deutsches Fernsehen , the production was shown on September 19, 2018 in Das Erste . The first broadcast on ORF was on September 14, 2019.
action
The social satire tells a fictional story about the Munich fashion designer Rudolph Moshammer, who was murdered in 2005. In the 1980s he was a prominent fashion designer and ran a shop on Maximilianstrasse in Munich . His financiers and investors, including Gerdi and Toni, are less interested in his reputation than in the money and want to make higher profits from his company. His business should also win over the money and high nobility as customers, such as the extravagant Konstantin Graf Antzenberg, known as "Dudu".
Moshammer is therefore looking for an attractive and seductive young woman to sell, to the horror of Mama Else. He finds this in the podiatrist Evi from Augsburg, who may not be particularly noticeable at first glance and is also a bit clumsy, but is being redesigned by Moshammer into an exciting woman. And indeed, Count Antzenberg, with Evi's support, places a major order with Moshammer. Mama Else is not very enthusiastic about Evi and she begins to forge intrigues in the background, for example by accusing her of stealing an expensive watch; Evi is subsequently released. In addition, Mama Else Rudolph makes social engagement public against his will in order to evaluate it in the media and to win the sympathy of the public.

reception
Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv found that Alexander Adolph developed a zeitgeist-like psychogram of his hero by allowing the essence of the decade of obscene capitalism to be reflected in the story and the cleverly reduced staff. The film has become a finely chiseled, deliciously played, wonderfully versatile social satire in the tradition of Dieter Wedel and Helmut Dietl .
Sven Hauberg said in Heilbronn's voice that leading actor Thomas Schmauser was almost perfectly imitating Moshammer's exalted style and his strangely compressed way of speaking, but Moshammer did not degenerate into a caricature. Behind the staging of a production, the human drama that was Moshammer's life always shimmers. Above all, the film wanted to be the moral image of a society in which Roberto Blanco , Thomas Gottschalk and Michael Schanze were still German world stars. However , this film is not as snappy as Kir Royal .
Michael Hanfeld wrote in a FAZ review that the film was "a melancholy homage and fine satire that is seldom seen."
In Germany, the film was seen by 4.11 million people when it was first broadcast, and the market share was 14.6 percent.
