Death and the Maiden is a German crime film by Karola Hattop from 2009. It is the 301st episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 and the 40th case for Schmücke and Schneider .

action

In this case, Commissioners Schmücke and Schneider are dealing with the murder of the music student Johannes Steuben, who is hit in the middle of Halle and who ultimately dies of serious injuries. The commissioners can clearly see the intention to commit murder, because witness Frank Ziehrer saw everything. However, due to the darkness, he cannot provide any information about the driver.

The victim was considered very talented at the music conservatory. Together with Nico Ziehrer, the son of the witness, he wanted to take part in a music competition and had a great chance of winning it. However, Nico thinks it is out of the question that someone would kill him because of it. One of his main competitors is the eccentric André Kollwitz. He claims to have been to the conservatory at the time of the crime to practice with a fellow student . But he can give Schmücke a reference to David Dahlenberg, with whom Johannes Steuben recently had a massive argument. Nevertheless, the Commissioners are not getting anywhere. Neither a concrete motive nor the vehicle can be found.

Frank Ziehrer, who recently visited his son a lot, is found dead on a park bench one day. The forensic doctor found a pancreatic tumor , but the cause of death was an overdose of insulin. It has to be clarified whether there is third-party debt or whether Ziehrer wanted to get ahead of his cancer. A questioning of Nico reveals that he had told him that he knew who would have killed Steuben. A check of his cell phone leads to Therés Dahlenberg, the chairman of the board of trustees of the conservatory, whose SUV was recently in the workshop. This is how Schmücke and Schneider found out that Dahlenberg's son had driven the car. The commissioners had a mistake in their investigation and agree that the murderer was wrong in the dark and that Nico Ziehner was actually meant. David Dahlenberg had an unnaturally close relationship with his sister Lilly and couldn't see how she spent more and more time with Nico Ziehner.

David Dahlenberg is then arrested.

Public Prosecutor Dr. Iris Meissner receives an offer from the Federal Prosecutor's Office and decides to leave Halle to start something new in Karlsruhe.

criticism

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv appreciates: "A dramaturgically well-known, with stereotypical roles, but quite varied Whodunit, which mostly hits the right notes emotionally."

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best possible rating (thumbs up) and wrote: “Humane, but hits the right note”.

Negative criticism comes from Torben Gebhardt at odds meter. There it says: “The construct from the upper-class scene of musically gifted young people too often gets lost in unnecessary figure constellations, some of which have turned out to be quite obscure. Too many people are processed in too short a time, the viewer cannot really deal with the people shown. "He also finds:" The story that the screenwriters Xao Seffcheque and Jürgen Starbatty have created here [... ] [was] anything but unusual. A lot has been seen better and more coherently here and there. In the end, all that remains is simple and sometimes tension-free entertainment. "
