Karl Gustav von Erichsen (born January 11, 1743 in Moscow , † March 5, 1827 in Breslau ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and most recently in command of the Cosel Fortress .

Life

origin

His parents were the Swedish officer Gustav von Erichsen and his wife Paulowa, née von Fuchs. His father was captured by Russia in 1709 and then stayed in the country. One of his brothers was a Russian general, chief of the 26th Jäger Regiment, commander of the 14th Army Division and governor of Narva .

Military career

Erichsen came in 1756 as a page at the Russian court. In 1759 he became an ensign in the "Wyborg" grenadier regiment and fought from 1760 in the Seven Years' War against the Prussians in the battles of Kay and Kunersdorf and the siege of Kolberg . From 1761 he was transferred to the Novgorod Regiment. After Russia had changed sides, Erichsen went into Prussian service on May 16, 1762 and joined the "von Werner" hussar regiment as a cornet . On March 6, 1766 he was second lieutenant there and on April 9, 1778 prime lieutenant . Erichsen fought as such in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 in the battle near Teschen, where he received a blow in the left shoulder. On August 30, 1781, he was given three months' leave in Russia to deal with his affairs there. On August 31, 1783 Erichsen was then staff assistant master and on June 20, 1790 Rittmeister and squadron chief . In the First Coalition War he fought in the skirmish at Sierck, Fonteroy, Mont Chatier, Clermond and the siege of Verdun . Erichsen also fought in the battles at La Lune, Hochheim, Zweibrücken , Auerbach, Guntersblum, Kirrweiler , Alsebirn, the battle of Pirmasens and the siege of Mainz . For Sierck he received the order Pour le Mérite on August 11, 1792, and was promoted to major on August 18, 1792 . On May 21, 1801, he was then transferred to the Upper Silesian Fusilier Brigade, and on May 8, 1802 as a brigadier . In addition, Erichsen was appointed head of the Fusilier Battalion No. 10. On June 4, 1803, he was promoted to colonel .

In the War of the Fourth Coalition Erichsen was in the Battle of Jena seriously wounded. After the defeat of Prussia on September 13th, he was initially set to half his salary , but Erichsen was to be given a command post as soon as possible. It was not until February 18, 1809 that he got the post of commander of the Cosel Fortress . On November 1, 1810, he was promoted to major general with a patent dated November 2, 1810. On May 29, 1813 he received his retirement as lieutenant general with a pension of 1000 thalers. He died in Breslau on March 5, 1827.

Erichsen married Eleonore Karoline Konstanze von Muhr on February 14, 1774 in Ratibor (* January 10, 1752, † January 12, 1822). The couple had several children:
