Birds of prey is a German crime film by Esther Wenger from 2012. It is the 326th episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 , the 48th case for the Halle inspectors Schmücke and Schneider and the sixth case for the superintendent Nora Lindner ( Isabell Gerschke ).

The flight instructor André Wanka is found dead on a disused industrial site in Halle. He was slain according to the traces and very probably only deposited here. Weigand finds earth particles on the victim's shoes that lead to a nearby nature reserve. Wanka's wife works there as a conservationist, from whom he separated for two years and lived with Jenny Münzer. Together with her brother Dominik, she runs a farm in need of renovation, which they want to convert into a family inn. She knows that the last time Wanka wanted to meet with the freight forwarder Ulf Adamski, for whom he was supposed to be doing an order.
After repeatedly illuminating all possible motifs, in the end the unmistakable trace of nature conservation and the illegal trade in eagle eggs remains. Through the ornithological activity of his ex-wife, Wanka had knowledge of nesting sites for the lesser spotted eagles breeding nearby. Although they were kept secret, Wanka had been able to spy on them on his sightseeing flights. Through Ulf Adamski he wanted to monetize the valuable eggs abroad. When Maria Wanka, who devoted her whole life to protecting these animals, found out about him, she had beaten her ex-husband to death with a spade.

The first broadcast of the police call birds of prey on March 18, 2012 was seen by a total of 8.12 million viewers in Germany. This achieved a market share of 21.94 percent.
criticism
Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv says soberingly: “The last two films indicated a certain upswing in the Halle 'Police Call' team, but with the episode 'Birds of Prey' Mr Schmücke and Schneider and their young colleague Nora Lindner are back arrived at a petty Whodunit case. The psychology of even the more exciting characters remains subordinate to the crime fiction convention, so that even actresses like Henny Reents and Esther Zimmering can no longer save anything. "
Even with the odds meter there is little positive: “The characters are designed spongy, even spongier than in most other German television thrillers. The motives for action remain on the surface, the language style in the usual emotional larifari, without ever penetrating deeply. The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave it a medium rating (thumbs to the side) and commented: “More like a leisurely, aged wader”.
