The slim death is a German crime film by Thomas Jacob from 1996. It is the 183rd episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 and the third case for the investigator duo Schmücke and Schneider .

action

The Halle inspectors Schmücke and Schneider investigate the death of an employee of a pharmaceutical company. Ruth Baselitz, after an argument with her boss and partner, Dr. Helmut Merten, angry, drove away from his party and in his car and suffers a fatal traffic accident. Since the police did not find any skid marks, they initially assumed suicide. Her children, Lena and Robert Baselitz, are shocked and explain to investigators that their mother was not depressed. In her opinion, only Dr. Merten had something to do with her death, because he wanted to separate from his partner, as he and his young colleague Dr. Kerstin Paslak had let in. After it turns out that the brake lines of the accident car were deliberately cut, Merten becomes the main suspect. Traces in his garage indicate that the manipulation was carried out there. However, he denies having anything to do with the accident. During their research, the commissioners find out that Mertens was not too popular as a boss in his company. So the attack could have been against him.

Lena Baselitz finds documents in her mother's estate according to which Merten administered an unapproved weight loss product to patients and a woman may have died in the process. She informs Commissioner Schmücke about this, who then deals with this death. However, an expert explains to him that it would be difficult to attribute the woman's death to the drug beyond any doubt. So the investigators find another patient who is with Dr. Kerstin Paslak is in treatment and also receives the preparation. Schmücke uses a trick to obtain a blood sample from the man. He hopes to be able to prove that Merten produces a non-approved drug and, with the help of Dr. Kerstin Paslak administered illegally to patients.

Robert Baselitz, plagued by self-accusations, now confesses to his sister that it was he who cut the brake lines. He wanted to free his mother from the tyrannical Merten and could not have known that he was entrusting his car to Ruth Baselitz. In his grief, Robert shoots himself with a pistol. Lena Baselitz then rushes to Merten and wants him to atone for her family tragedy. She threatens him with Robert's pistol, but before she can shoot, Inspector Schmücke appears and prevents another murder.
