Politico is an American daily newspaper. It was founded in the United States in 2007 and has developed into one of the most important media in Washington’s political life. A European edition has also been published since 2015 . Axel Springer Verlag acquired the newspaper in August 2021 .

US edition

The circulation in the USA is around 40,000 copies. Politico appears five times a week during the session of the Congress , and once a week outside of this time. The core of the publications are long, personalized background pieces on the one hand, and on the other hand the magazine follows in detail all events and daily routines in the White House in a blog . There are around 350 employees. Michael Allen was chief reporter until 2016 . Joe Scarborough writes there as a columnist. Many of the journalists come from the Washington Post community . There are regional editions for New York City , New Jersey, and Florida .

European edition

The European edition Politico has been published in Brussels since April 2015 in a joint venture with Axel Springer Verlag . The CEO is Claire Boussagol, and the editor in chief was Stephen Brown from 2019 to 2021. The predecessor of the European edition was the European Voice from 1995 to 2015 .

Purchase by Springer

On August 26, 2021, publisher Robert Allbritton signed an agreement to sell all Politico and Protocoler, a news website specializing in the technology sector, to the German media group Springer. The transaction also includes the complete sale of Politico Europe; According to sources, the price is said to be over a billion USD.
