Johannes Klinkenberg

Johannes Klinkenberg (born November 9, 1887 in Cologne ; † July 14, 1961 there ) was a German high school teacher and historian .

Live and act

Johannes Klinkenberg, son of the grammar school teacher Joseph Klinkenberg (1857-1917), attended the Marzelle grammar school in Cologne, where he graduated from high school in 1906. He then studied classical philology and history at the University of Bonn . In 1912 he passed the teaching examination for Latin, Greek and history. He completed his seminar and probationary year from 1912 to 1914 at the Schiller Gymnasium in Cologne-Ehrenfeld . In November 1913 he was at the University of Bonn with a thesis on the history of transmission of Photios doctorate . From 1914 to 1921 he was employed as an assistant teacher at the Schiller-Gymnasium, but was on leave at the Ursulinenlyzeum in Cologne. From 1921 he was to help out at the municipal gymnasium active in Cologne, in 1922 there as a teacher permanently employed. From 1945 until his retirement in 1954 he was senior director of the grammar school.

Like his father, he dealt with the history of Cologne and published in particular on Roman Cologne , as well as on the city layout and the limitations of the Ubierland . He was chairman of the Cologne History Association and co-founder of the Archaeological Society Cologne and its first chairman.

He died in 1961 at the age of 73 and was buried in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (hall 39). His son was the historian Hans Martin Klinkenberg (1921–2002).
