Tanz der Lemminge is a double LP and the third album by the German psychedelic rock band Amon Düül II .

history

Dance of the Lemmings consists of two parts. The second LP contains the soundtrack to the 1970 film "Chamsin".

Each of the LP sides is quite different, as a different member of the band is always responsible for the songs. Page 1 comes from the guitarist Chris Karrer, accordingly the acoustic guitar is in the foreground. Here his preference for Spanish or Oriental music becomes evident, which he lives out on his solo records today.

Page 2 is mostly by John Weinzierl (also guitar) and much heavier, with more classic electric guitar riffs. It is reminiscent of Hawkwind or other spacer rock bands.

Page 3 comes from the band's electronics technician, Falk Rogner, and accordingly contains calm, almost meditative sound paintings that are reminiscent of UMMAGUMMA from Pink Floyd (especially the live record).

Page 4, however, contains the shorter tracks.

With Shrat (who had started his own project Sameti) and Renate Knaup, two founding members of Amon Düül were not part of the recordings (Henriette Krötenschwanz Knaup does have a short vocal appearance in "Riding On A Cloud"). This is why bassist Lothar Meid (previously briefly with Embryo) and electronics specialist and sound engineer Karl-Heinz Hausmann joined the group. Jimmy Jackson (back then with Embryo) can also be heard as a guest on all kinds of keyboard instruments (he replaces Falk Rogner in the first two pieces). "Tanz der Lemminge" is therefore probably the most key-heavy album by the Düüls, which manifests itself in various passages full of distorted, shrill and howling organ sounds and something that sounds like Mellotron choirs (the cover says "Choir-Organ").
