Chris Karrer
Christoph Karrer (born January 20, 1947 in Kempten (Allgäu) ) is a German multi-instrumentalist and composer. He is a founding member of Amon Düül and is known for his collaboration with Embryo and Ernst Fuchs . He plays guitar , oud , violin and saxophone .
Live and act
Karrer began playing the banjo and soprano saxophone when he was twelve . After he had passed his Abitur at the boarding school in Marktoberdorf , he first studied painting at the art college in Munich .
In 1967 he founded the band Amon Düül with Peter Leopold, Dieter Serfas and others . Karrer appeared in the Beat Club in 1970 with his band Amon Düül II . After the Düüls disbanded, he released the solo album Chris Karrer (1980), which did not attract the audience and therefore had no successor for a decade. After having toured together with Embryo in Morocco , he reinvented himself as a Sufism- inspired world musician, and learned to play the short-necked oud. Three albums resulted from it: Dervish Kiss (1994), Sufisticated (1996) and The Mask (1997). His last solo album, Grandezza Mora (1999), on the other hand, was dedicated to another longstanding passion of the musician, namely the timbres of the flamenco guitar.
