Uli Trepte

Uli Trepte (born September 27, 1941 in Konstanz ; † May 21, 2009 in Berlin ) was a German bassist, singer, composer and lyricist.

Life

He was a founding member of the free jazz playing Irène Schweizer Trio (1966–1967) and the pioneering Krautrock group Guru Guru (1968–1972). Trepte played with the progressive bands Neu! , Faust and Kickbit Information as well as musicians such as Yusef Lateef , Gato Barbieri , Barney Wilen , John McLaughlin , Mal Waldron , Edgar Hofmann and Hans Hartmann .

He led his own groups “Spacebox” (1975–1984) and “Move Groove” (1996–2001) and made recordings under his own name, with which he consistently structured his concept of a European, polyphonic, collective improvised, minor dominated modal harmonic, cyclically structured , organic-electric, groovy live music. He also worked with Aja Waalwijk, Amsterdam on the unusual song project Takes on Words .

Trepte lived in London, Tokyo, New York; Since 1985 he has lived as a multimedia artist in Berlin, where he developed a special type of text performance.

Uli Trepte died of cancer on May 21, 2009.
