action

When the Struutz family returned from their vacation in Italy, a lot changed in Bitterfeld . The US investor William Buck is leveling the land and converting it into a modern golf course. A fresh start in the city of Dresden is now being tried. Udo Struutz benefits from the inheritance of a garden gnome factory in Landwitz. However, Mayor Kuhn is also attached to the former state-owned company "Rote Mütze", who wants to snatch the property for a motorway project.

The family splits up and tries to gain advantages. Daughter Jacqueline tours Dresden, while mother Rita charms Mayor Kuhn, who seems to be more interested in bird watching. Udo is finally offered to sell the factory for a symbolic mark. Otherwise he would be expropriated - unless he can raise a million marks, which are supposed to be proof of investment and thus prevent the expropriation.

Shortly afterwards, Udo meets the adventurer Charlie, who quickly says goodbye to his goal of supplying the East with condoms. However, Charlie infects Udo with his entrepreneurial spirit and gives him the idea of traveling to the man who has the Struutz 'house on his conscience: William Buck. Arriving in New York , Udo draws the investor's attention to himself with an outburst of anger and finally gets an order for the garden gnome production worth over a million dollars. Back at home, Udo can use the check to prevent expropriation and preserve the production facility for garden gnomes. Thanks to Jacqueline's initiative, which saved the Trabi Schorsch from being scrapped and restored it to its old (light blue) shine, the Struutz family is now reuniting. In one last encounter, Udo says goodbye to Charlie, who is on his way to the Urals, because the "wild east" no longer exists for him.

Reviews

"Tame comedy that is ultimately better at tourism advertising than satirical swipes at new German realities."

“While the first Trabi took off with 1.5 million visitors, the second never got going due to a lack of humor. Conclusion: meant as satire, fizzled out as farce. "

“After the success of Peter Timm's cinema comedy Go Trabi Go , this sequel was created the following year, but it no longer achieves the wit and above all the originality of its predecessor. This is mainly due to the direction of co-author Reinhard Kloos and Wolfgang Büld, who instead of subtle humor and situational comedy as in part one only produced silly and predictable thigh-thump jokes. Even the prominent cast cannot change that. "
