Günter Junghans

Günter Junghans (born July 14, 1941 in Leipzig ; † August 10, 2014 near Berlin ) was a German actor .

Life

Junghans attended the University for Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg , which he graduated in 1963 as a graduate actor. He then took on numerous theater, film and television roles.

His portrayal of the self-criticizing mayor Beutler in Fritz Marquardt's production Die Bauern (= The Resettled or Life in the Country ) by Heiner Müller at the Volksbühne in East Berlin was terrific (premiere: May 30, 1976).

In 1983 he was awarded the GDR Art Prize “for his benchmark artistic achievements as an actor” .

In 2005 he was appointed ambassador for the children's hospice in Central Germany. Günter Junghans died in August 2014 at the age of 73 after a short, serious illness in a hospital near Berlin.
