occupation

Der Revolver des Corporals is a German DEFA feature film by Rolf Losansky from 1967 based on motifs from the eponymous story by Eberhard Panitz .

action

The film begins in a Cuban village in the 1950s. Soldiers of the Batista - dictatorship arrest the friend's sister José, put the cabin on fire and shoot him in the eyes of the villagers.

Hilario, a friend of José's, was taken in by his parents like their own son. Because of what happened just now, the two of them want to go to the mountains to see the rebels as quickly as possible, where José's older brothers have long been. The first attempt to cross a river into the rebel area fails because of a post by Batista soldiers. They also know the secret law that only those who bring a weapon are accepted into the rebels. When they try to steal the revolver from a corporal in front of a restaurant in the forest , Hilario is overwhelmed by the latter. But when the captain in charge comes by, Hilario is not betrayed, but portrayed as an ordinary beggar. He thinks he recognizes his brother Camillo in the corporal. Although he serves with the Batista soldiers, he has retained his humanity. José sets out alone for the mountains, where he meets his brothers, who serve as commanders and group leaders with the rebels.

Hilario wants to meet his brother again and looks for him in the barracks with the soldiers. Here he falls into her hands and is locked up in prison and released again. He and his brother agree on a meeting point where Camillo wants to bring weapons for the rebels. The captain has long suspected that he sympathizes with the rebels and wants to set a trap for him. He assigns a sergeant to monitor the situation, who discovers the weapons and shoots the corporal in a scuffle. When Hilario arrives at the agreed place, he finds the weapons, but instead of the brother, a troop of mercenaries. Then the partisans alerted by José appear. After a firefight, Hilario flees with them into the mountains, his brother's revolver firmly in hand!

criticism

“Films that are intended to appeal to young people between the ages of 14 and 15 must have heroes with whom the young viewers can identify. They must have an exciting, adventurous plot and at the same time be of educational value without a raised index finger being visible. The corporal's revolver has all of these advantages . "

“This is a film full of exciting adventures, rich in a foreign atmosphere, for which the Bulgarian Black Sea landscape on the Turkish border with raging white water, jagged rocks and an almost tropical jungle provided a romantic backdrop, which Günter Eisinger's camera savored. A film full of exciting conflicts and distinctive characters, which well-known actors have given shape. "

The lexicon of international films called the film an average crafted adventure story that remains stenciled in the drawing of people and conflicts and is content with external tension. "
