Bruno Carstens
Bruno Carstens (born October 26, 1918 in Wilhelmshaven ; † October 30, 2001 in Saalfeld , Thuringia ) was a German actor . He was the first television commissioner in the German Democratic Republic .
Life
From 1933 he learned the trade of seaman. At the beginning of the war in 1939 he was transferred to the Navy as a seaman . His attempt to flee to England failed and he was forced into the penalty battalion 999 . During the first mission he went over to the Red Army. He gained his first acting experience in a Soviet prisoner-of-war camp near Karaganda and at the Central Antifa School.
After the war he returned to Germany, went to the Soviet occupation zone and became a member of the SED in 1948 . He took up acting studies at the German Theater Institute in Weimar. This was followed by stage positions in Weimar , Leipzig and Brandenburg (Havel) before he joined the Berliner Ensemble in 1959 , to which he belonged for many years.
In addition, Carstens found a large field of activity in film and television. Between 1959 and 1968 he was the first TV commissioner in the GDR to play Captain Wernicke in the Blaulicht series . He also appeared in multi-part television programs such as the Temple of Satan and the classic children's film The Search for the Colorful Little Bird , directed by Rolf Losansky . From 1970 he was also a member of the actor ensemble of the television of the GDR .
Carstens was a member of the federal board of the FDGB and the central board of the art union.
Bruno Carstens was married to the actress Isot Kilian , whom he met during his time at the Berliner Ensemble. He rests next to his wife in the Dorotheenstadt cemetery in Berlin.
His written estate is in the archive of the Academy of Arts in Berlin.
