Die Solinseglerin is a DEFA German feature film by Herrmann Zschoche from 1987. It is based on the short novel of the same name by Christine Wolter .

action

Literary scholar Christine inherits her father's sailing boat. The kite would have to be completely overhauled to get a good price on sale. The single parent Christine does not want to keep him because she could not afford the maintenance and the processing with her low salary. However, when no buyer can be found for the kite by winter, she plans to sell it in spring. Until then, she wants to bring the boat into shape in order to achieve a better selling price.

In her institute she has the opportunity to start a doctoral thesis . She takes the chance, but has increasing problems. Her ex-husband Werner, who occasionally took her little son from her over the weekend, is going to Mongolia for a long time on business . Christine works on her doctoral thesis at night, but hardly makes any progress. At the weekend she tries to renovate the boat. In addition, she begins an affair with keyboardist Georg, which breaks up when she prefers working on the boat to a weekend together. Her friend Veronika, who is also a single parent, stands by her and takes care of her son, who is increasingly estranged from his mother. Friend Kutte helps with the boat renovation so that the sailboat can finally be successfully launched in the spring.

The boat renovation not only cost Christine a lot of money. Your doctoral thesis, which should become a legacy for a larger project, is rejected by your professor as not well thought out. Christine herself is transferred to the archive for a lower salary and so cannot do any further academic work for the time being. Werner, who has returned from Mongolia, would lend her 2000 marks in her financial need, but when he learns that Christine would use the money for the boat, he leaves her for good. Defiantly, she also rejects an offer to buy from a macho man. She wants to keep the boat. For the first time she sails alone on the Müritz . When the boat runs aground on a sandbank and capsizes, Christine climbs onto the boat, which is lying at an angle in the water. She starts to laugh.

production

The single sailor was filmed in Berlin and on and on the Scharmützelsee . The premiere of the film took place on July 2, 1987 in the Berlin Kino International .

It was the first and only film in which Christina Powileit , drummer for the rock band Mona Lise , appeared. In view of the unusual cast, critics said: "The director's idea of casting the title role with the drummer of the popular group Mona Lise will hopefully be reflected in the number of visitors."

The well-known photographer Helmut Raddatz made a cameo in the film .

Reviews

Contemporary critics wrote that the main character Christine is “a lone sailor even in dramaturgical waters, she hardly has any partners, and there is also a lack of impulses that blow a little water into the action sail. Whenever dialogues are required, he breaks off. ”Other critics praised the“ new tones of female self-irony ”, which give the film“ something of cheerful sovereignty ”. Rosemarie Rehahn said: “The film has its refreshing spots when it delivers everyday observations with a brisk flick of the tongue or shows female togetherness. [...] In Herrmann Zschoche's unusually moodless direction, it seems to me that the overall indecisive treatment of the subject is reflected. "

For the lexicon of international films , Die Solinseglerin was "a sensitively staged and acted portrait of a woman that only uses the everyday problems of real socialism as a cabaret accessory to break a lance for strong women in an entertaining and thoughtful way."

Cinema found: “With a cabaret flair, the low-action female portrait breaks a lance for emancipation. Conclusion: With lacony, a world view is shaken ”.
