Harald Engelmann

Harald Engelmann (* 1933 ) is a German actor , dancer , choreographer and theater director .

Life

Engelmann worked at the Komische Oper Berlin in the early 1960s , including as a pantomime and dancer . He was a soloist in the ballet of the Komische Oper, where he appeared in productions by Walter Felsenstein .

In his now legendary production of the opera A Midsummer Night's Dream , Engelmann embodied the speaking role of the goblin Puck under the musical direction of Kurt Masur . Engelmann's portrayal was particularly characterized by its acrobatics and artistry , which required Engelmann's full physical effort. In the 1962/1963 season he took on the role of Doctor Purgon in the dance pantomime The imaginary sick by Hans-Dieter Hosalla (1919–1995), based on motifs from Molière's comedy The imaginary sick .

From 1966 Engelmann also worked as an actor, director and choreographer at the Volksbühne Berlin . There he co-directed Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor (premiere December 30, 1967), was responsible for the choreographies of several plays and appeared in various productions until the 1980s, mainly in supporting roles. Performances were also recorded for GDR television .

As a theater director staged Engelmann 1975 at the Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam , the musical trio of Gerd Natschinski . In 1979, on the occasion of the Lessing year, he directed a production by Nathan the Wise at the Schwedt Theater .

Engelmann has also played supporting roles in film and television since the 1950s. He embodied character roles and charges ; he often played authority figures such as officers or judicial officers. Engelmann made his film debut in 1953 in the episode Persil remains Persil in the satirical short film series Das Stacheltier , in which he played a student. When Götz Friedrich , director at the Komische Oper, shot his only feature film Little Red Riding Hood in 1962 , he engaged Engelmann to play the Fox.

Engelmann played in a few other DEFA films, including Ralf Kirsten's East German coat and sword film Mir after, Canaillen! and Herrmann Zschoche's contemporary film Die Alinseglerin . He has appeared in numerous television films and series.

On GDR television he had two smaller episode roles in the crime series Polizeiruf 110 , as a decoy in the episode Trickfrügerin wanted (1977) and as public prosecutor Franke in the episode The Dead Pays (1987).

Harald Engelmann lives with his third wife, cabaret artist Andrea Meissner and son Felix Albert Meissner in Potsdam .
