Albert Wendt (children's author)
Albert Wendt (born February 27, 1948 in Borsdorf near Leipzig) is a German playwright , radio play and children's book author .
Life
After graduating from high school (1966 in Markkleeberg) Albert Wendt worked as a wrestler, tractor driver and stage worker. He studied cultural studies for a few semesters at the University of Leipzig (1969–1972) and at the Leipzig Literature Institute “Johannes R. Becher” (1972–1974). In 1977 he took part in a scriptwriting seminar at the Babelsberg Film School. Albert Wendt has been a freelance writer since 1975. He writes plays, radio plays and short stories for adults and children. In 1976, one-act play was filmed by GDR television under the title “Three Little Night Stories”, and in 1986 his most successful play “Der Vogelkopp”. His dramatic work was accompanied by poems and aphorisms. The stage works, e.g. B. "Sauwetterwind", "Princess Zartfuß" and "Padulidu and Lorelei", were later published as fairytale stories in book form.
Albert Wendt sums up central problems of the time in their recurring topicality in a humorous and mostly fairytale form. His work has been recognized by national and international awards. Vogelkopp was born in 1990 at the Schauspielhaus Zürich, in 1993 under the title "Tête-à-bécasse" at the Théâtre des Lunes, Neuchâtel / Switzerland, in 2005 at the Memorial Union Play Circle "in Madison / Wisconsin and in 2015 under the title" Bird Brain "on the Western Canada Theater in Kamloops / Canada. In 1987 he received the Lessing Prize of the GDR, in 1989 the Terres des Hommes Children's Radio Play Prize for the radio play "Sauwetterwind" (WDR) and in 2009 the Austrian Children's and Youth Book Prize for his children's book "Betti Kettenhemd".

Aphorisms
Albert Wendt recorded the condensed reflection on his principles and working methods in aphoristic form, published in the collections and anthologies “The wisdom of the last shot”, “Roofers and other pieces and texts” and “New Aphorisms”. The following selection was published on the homepage of the Austrian Children's and Youth Book Prize:
"Sentences from the work books 2017. Albert Wendt about his work on the book" Henrikes Dachgarten ":
- Find a pregnant place, then people show up, then something happens, finally people talk.
- Lift - curl - lead - dance from small to larger proportions. Greater relationships in 3 dimensions: space, time, inhabitants (heavenly beings to mice).
- There are only 4 tasks that I have in front of me: The idea of a beautiful structure, the beautiful structure in a text, with partners to form a suitable, durable container around the text (book, play, radio play and the like), with partners Using and creating means of transport to bring the work to those who need it most urgently.
- Do not enter or plow contaminated terrain.
- If I have the wide sea in front of me, why should I turn away and crouch down and poke around in a sewage pool with a stick.
- Enrich - make strict - enrich - make strict ...
- A good story: A plastic becomes visible as a beautiful structure and makes pleasant noises.
- Tame abundance! Don't fill emptiness!
- Throw the hero into the battles and then sit back and watch. Test the hero to his limits to find out what he's good for.
- Do not build anything into a plant that would rot quickly.
- How do I break open the petty bourgeois box? Children, artists, kings, storms, locks of fate, characters, miracles ...
- Ten exam questions to ask the text before I hand it over:
- Hasn't my little self pushed too far? Is it in the right place?
- Does the work of the queen of the world serve morality? Is it straightforward but chaste?
- Has the subject been clearly outlined?
- Is the work part of the series of the old masters?
- Is it also interested in a gifted child in a refugee trek?
- Was something missing if I left out parts of the work?
- Was something missing if I left it out?
- Were enough forces of stature involved in shaping the work?
- Have I erased everything cheap, vain, zealous, excited, superfluous, know-it-all, instructive, sensationalist, boastful?
- Can the work withstand the gaze, the gaze from the new eyes that are born with a new era (quote from Heine)?
