Meriam Abbas

Meriam Abbas (* 1970 in Baghdad ), alternative spelling Myriam Abbas , is a German-Iraqi actress .

Life

Abbas grew up in Iraq and from the age of twelve in Berlin . She completed her acting training between 1991 and 1994 at the Mozarteum in Salzburg . She then appeared at the Schloßparktheater Berlin , the Schauspielhaus Wien , the Volkstheater Wien (title role in Antigone von Sophokles ), the Schauspielhaus Zürich and several times at the Münchner Kammerspiele (e.g. in Psychosis by Sarah Kane ). The Burgtheater in Vienna she was involved in the 2005/06 season for the first performance of the play We want the Messiah or the accelerated family of Franzobel .

Meriam Abbas has also worked in numerous film and television productions, e. B. in Nachtgestalten (1999) by Andreas Dresen or in As Fast You Can (2001) by Vivian Naefe . In 2005 she took on a role in Oday Rasheed's debut work Underexposure , the first Iraqi feature film after the fall of the Saddam regime and the beginning of the US occupation.

In 1998/99, Meriam Abbas received the Karl Skraup Prize of the Vienna Volkstheater for the “best acting performance” of a season . In 1998 she was awarded the Kainz Medal of the City of Vienna (Category: Promotion Prize II).
