Audience ratings

The first broadcast of the first two episodes VERBRECHEN after Ferdinand von Schirach on April 7, 2013 saw 3.44 and 2.61 million viewers in Germany; Episodes 3 and 4 in the following week 3.17 and 2.52 million and the last two episodes 2.81 and 2.73 million viewers. The ZDF television game director Reinhold Elschot said: “We are happy and proud that our program venture 'Crimes' was received very positively in the press and the public. And we are very happy that our audience followed this path. The best evidence of this is that the conclusion of our series, the episode 'Self Defense', had the highest engagement and demographics. That gives us courage for our next plans. "

Reviews

“Whereby it is not so much the tricky gimmicks, which are well worth seeing and very finely tuned to the respective scripts, that make these petty thrillers a pleasure. It is almost revolutionary how, perhaps for the first time, crime is consistently negotiated differently here on German television. It's not about convicting a perpetrator - it's about understanding him. "

“On the next three Sunday evenings [...] the audience can look forward to aesthetic pleasure in a class of its own, which, due to the consistently tough plot and some highly violent individual scenes, also requires solid mental stability. In any case, a large group of actors did a lot very right in this production. "

“Perhaps it would have been wiser to only take the stories of the original, which are reduced to the plot, only as a distant approach for your own new stories. Then one could have found images for inner development. Then you could have shown any development at all. Then one could have achieved tension from the way people struggle to find the best way out of their dilemma. But as?"

- Achim Zons : Süddeutsche Zeitung

“You can't praise“ Verbrechen ”without criticizing the other excesses of the genre, because“ Verbrechen ”shows what is possible: a psychologically so complex and aesthetically so demanding and mature series like hardly any other German television production in this millennium. The avant-garde is at home here not only in the quiet, filigree narrative style, but also in the extraordinarily artful staging with its complex symbols and clever camera work. «Verbrechen» could be the long-awaited creative breakthrough for the German series. "
