Jan Fedder
Jan Fedder (born January 14, 1955 in Hamburg ; † December 30, 2019 there ) was a German actor and voice actor . He became known for his portrayal of North German characters, in particular the police officer Dirk Matthies in the television series Großstadtrevier .
Life
Fedder grew up as the son of the bar owner Adolf Fedder and his wife Gisela, a dancer, in Hamburg-St. Pauli on. The parental eatery “Zur Überseebrücke” was located directly on the Hamburg harbor. His brother Oliver is seven years older. He completed an apprenticeship as a forwarding agent , but never did this job.
At the age of seven, Fedder sang as a boy soprano in the choir of the Hamburg Michel . Before his acting training, which he began at the age of ten, he took ballet lessons for a few years , but later switched to acting. At the age of 13 he stood on stage and in front of the camera for the first time (for the series Reisedienst Schwalbe ). For 19 years he played in the Klecks children's and youth theater on Hamburg's Großneumarkt and took part in plays by Shakespeare and Goethe in the Ernst-Deutsch-Theater .
Since 2007, Fedder has been involved as a “ boatman ” for the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People . In his free time he lived on a farm in Ecklak in the Steinburg district , which he restored from 1997 . Fedder and his wife Marion had been married since 2000.
In autumn 2012 he was diagnosed with the preliminary stage of oral cancer, whereupon he quit smoking, underwent radiation therapy and took a year off from work. In 2016 he suffered several broken bones in a fall. In June 2019, he announced in an interview that he had been dependent on a wheelchair for a long time.
Jan Fedder died on December 30, 2019 in his apartment in Hamburg. The funeral service took place on January 14, 2020, Fedder's 65th birthday, at his request in Hamburg's Michel - where he was baptized, confirmed and married and sang in the boys' choir. Then there was a mourning convoy over St. Pauli. Jan Fedder was buried two days later in close family and friends at the Ohlsdorf cemetery (T22 1–9, U22 1–7, godparent grave, formerly the Breuer family). The St. Michaelis Foundation honors Jan Fedder with its own Michel plaque. Under the heading Tschüs Jan Fedder there is space for 69 names of people who would like to donate 300 euros or more for the Michel in memory of Jan Fedder. The plaques are set on the floor in front of the Michel and commemorate famous personalities. The plaque is to be relocated to Michel's church square in autumn 2020.
In April 2020 his authorized biography "Jan Fedder: Immortal" was published, which was created in collaboration with the journalist Tim Pröse .
At the end of April 2020, Fedder's grave received his stone, which replaces the previous wooden cross. In addition to the name and the dates of life on a white marble slab, the sentence Love is immortal can be seen, all in gold letters. Underneath is the motif of Hamburg's Admiralty coat of arms, supplemented by a red heart .
Career
After minor TV appearances in 1979 and 1980, his first major role was that of 'Boatswain's Mate Pilgrim' in the film Das Boot . In the following years he played in many, mainly north German television productions, until he finally took over the role of police officer 'Dirk Matthies' in the metropolitan area in 1990 . He also played one of the two main roles, that of 'Kurt Brakelmann', in the north German series Neues aus Büttenwarder, alongside his fellow actor Peter Heinrich Brix as 'Arthur Tönnsen'. The latter also played a leading role in the metropolitan area , namely that of 'Lothar Krüger'. Fedder also played in films based on material by Siegfried Lenz for ARD . In 2009 he appeared in Fatih Akin's comedy Soul Kitchen .
Alongside Fedder was the 1970s now and then as a voice actor operates, inter alia in a beef and when, Herbert 'in the Werner - films. When the radio station NDR 2 introduced uniform jingles for the first time in the mid-1980s , Fedder was the station's “ station voice ”.
As a counterbalance to his work as an actor, he worked as the lead singer of the band Big Balls , with whom he published the CD Aus Bock in 1998 and the CD Fedder geht's nicht in 2004.
