Our Hagenbecks is a German family series that takes place in Hamburg's Hagenbeck Zoo . From 1991 to 1994, 38 episodes were broadcast in three seasons on ZDF .

action

The (fictional) plot of the series revolves around the Hagenbeck family, who run the animal park of the same name in Hamburg. Director Christoph Hagenbeck and his 70-year-old mother Martha Hagenbeck, the senior manager, run the zoo. There are always problems that threaten the survival of the family business. Christoph's siblings Thomas and Miriam also contribute to this, who go their own way and do not act in the interests of the family. So they leave the banker Straaten shares in the company, although his plans for Hagenbeck as a Disney Park blend do not match the values of the traditional company. In addition, Christoph experiences a private tragedy when his wife Sylvia and the long-awaited baby are killed in a car accident. His stepson Tobby refuses to adopt, so that he is out of the question as a successor.

The series ends on a positive note: Christoph marries his lover Rebecca Holt, Miriam becomes a successful veterinarian in the Hagenbeck Zoo and Thomas is also committed to the family business and the welfare of the zoo animals. Straaten's plan to open a giant aquarium financed with public money and thus endanger Hagenbeck's existence can be thwarted.

criticism

"As expected, the mixture of typically shallow family drama with environmental issues and beautiful pictures made our Hagenbecks at the beginning of the 90s one of the most successful early-evening series."
