Alex and Fred are friends. You live in a small town. They are tired of crawling around and finally want to pick up the money that is known to be on the street, that is, they want to become entrepreneurs. They have plenty of ideal prerequisites: dynamism, willingness to take risks and imagination. They have long since discovered the niche in the market that they want to hit: taxis. There is only old Brauss's limp shop in town, for which he insolently wants 40,000 marks. On the other hand, the two of them lack material requirements at the moment. Therefore the matter is delayed a little.

After one of the countless business meetings at the "Goldener Engel", Fred sits behind the wheel of Alex's car. It is a painstakingly bought and lovingly cared for old Ford. He promptly drives it to an end and then runs away. The police only find the drunk Alex. The result: driving license revoked for two years. That hits the car fanatic and future taxi entrepreneur Alex hard. He decides to turn his back on the city. After exactly two years he will come back with 40,000 marks in his pocket and buy the taxi company, all by himself, without a partner. With that he will finally convince Traudl, the waitress from the "Goldener Engel", who up to now has not really believed in Alex's business abilities.

Two years later: Alex returns. That means it's more of a move into the city, on a grand scale, as befits an entrepreneur. He has matured, he says, and now knows what is important: understatement and distrust, especially towards the banks. And he actually pulls 40,000 marks out of his pocket. He was at the South Pole, worked hard and experienced a lot.

Alex's South Pole adventures are quickly making the rounds of town. The local newspaper is interested in him, old Brauss too and someone else: Fred. But Alex remains adamant. But when he got into trouble because Brauss now wants 50,000 marks for his taxi company, the eternal fanatic and profiteer Fred offers him his friendly advice and thus a thousand ways to make money, without banks. Alex softens, the old days are restored. Much to the chagrin of Traudl, who had other plans with Alex. Fred's plans are getting more and more fantastic, the actions more and more gigantic with which he wants to raise the missing 10,000 marks.

In the end, Alex and Fred concentrate more and more on the ideal, the dynamics, the willingness to take risks and the imagination. The material turns out to be Traudl's domain.
