action

Pastor Stefan Book of the St. Pauli Church is responsible for Schanze, Karo and Kiez. He lives his job with a big heart, body and soul, so that after intensive health depletion of his body he is prescribed rest by his doctor. With Evelyn Krietsch he gets a new nurse. But when he comes out of the hospital, problems pile up again. Not only has his house of worship been broken into several times, the young African Adoma Fauré is also hiding with him. The now eighteen-year-old Fauré once came to Germany illegally from Africa and is supposed to be deported back to her home country Togo after passing her Abitur . For Pastor Book the matter is clear. The young woman is granted sanctuary until the story is re-negotiated in court.

With that he makes the young lady happy. But several church leaders, including the church councilor Elke Cornelius, are not at all enthusiastic. Stefan's sister Rita Book, who works as a police officer on the case, is also not satisfied to be hindered in her task of arresting the young lady. At least Sabine Sattler from the immigration office, with whom Stefan gets along immediately, helps him. But other problems, including his fickle daughter, the petty criminal Dennis and the Lude Bodo student, troubled the pastor.

background

The film was shot in Hamburg from July 19 to August 18, 2011 . Its German premiere was on September 12, 2012 on ARD . It was seen by 5.23 million viewers, which corresponded to a market share of 17.4 percent.

On February 15, 2013, the first part was released on DVD.

The script is loosely based on a true story. The story of the 20-year-old Kate Amayo, who was to be deported from Hamburg in 2010 and only received the right of residence after a number of protests from a hardship commission of the Hamburg citizenship, served as the basis for the story.

Reviews

"Routinely staged (TV) film oscillating between commitment and sentiment, which is tailored entirely to the down-to-earth charm of the main actor."

"Prime role for Jan Fedder [...] As Adoma, the young Martina Offeh convinces in her first television role, for which she was discovered by a casting agent at a friend's birthday party."

“The ensemble and script (Stefan Wild) make the film worth seeing, the director (Stephan Meyer) is pleasantly restrained. Pathos rarely occurs. And if things get pathetic, for example, when the music starts Samuel Barber's 'Adagio for Strings', which is considered by many to be the saddest classical piece and is played in excess in the anti-war film 'Platoon', after a few seconds you suddenly pull yourself together and starts another background song. Otherwise, 'Der Hafenpastor' follows a very classic comedy dramaturgy with the deep fall in the penultimate act and purification and restored relationships in the last act. "

“The Port of Hamburg as a backdrop for both wicked and humane things - that's nothing new. Like here, a kind of 'Lindenstrasse' version of those St. Pauli films from the 70s with their rough-and-tumble pastors (mostly played by Curd Jürgens), flat good-bad clichés and a lot of social kitsch. And even if the story of this Schmonzette (director: Stephan Meyer, book: Stefan Wild) is to be based on a real case: the film has little to do with the harsh reality and actual asylum practice. Even more so with softened, dialog-heavy, even annoying TV gossip. An old-fashioned film in the bad sense of the word. "
