Thomas Born

Thomas "Karate-Tommy" Born (born October 23, 1951 in Hamburg ; † May 1, 2015 there ) was a German martial artist , pimp and actor .

Life

At 13, the son of a professional officer joined the Police Sports Club Berlin in order judo to learn. After moving to Hamburg he acquired the black belt in judo at the age of 19 and was part of the Olympic squad for a time. Later the black belt in karate was added. Both in judo (2nd Dan) and in karate (5th Dan) he was German champion. In karate, Born was 1.86 meters tall and was a member of the national team for three years, where he was temporarily team captain. In 1976 and 1977 he became European champion in this sport. He also has two European championship titles in kickboxing .

After graduating from high school in 1970 at Eppendorf , Born joined the paratrooper troops of the Bundeswehr . In 1976 he opened a martial arts school and was married to pop singer Elke Best from 1977 to the early 80s .

As a martial artist he became a “board member” of the “ Nutella gang ”, a Hamburg pimp group, led by Klaus Barkowsky . Within this he was head of the "Stress Department". He became known nationwide after a shooting on October 22, 1982, in which two members of the Nutella gang were killed and Born was seriously injured in the abdomen and forearm area. He also headed a group of debt collectors from St. Pauli .

After his retirement from the red light district , Born appeared in public mainly on TV talk shows.

Thomas Born died on May 1, 2015 as a result of a heart attack in the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf .
