Raphaël Xavier Varane (born April 25, 1993 in Lille ) is a French football player who has been under contract with Spanish record champions Real Madrid since the 2011/12 season .
Career
society
Varane was born in 1993 in Lille, his father is from the Caribbean -Insel Martinique . He started playing football for the small club AS Hellemmes at the age of seven . In 2002 he decided against his hometown club OSC Lille and moved to the youth department of the RC Lens . In 2009 he won the National des 16 ans with the U-16 team . In the 2009/10 season, at the age of 16, he already played in the club's U-19 team. In the summer of 2010 Varane signed his first professional contract and soon after came for the second team in the Championnat de France Amateur to use.
In October 2010, Varane trained for the first time with the first team. Due to an injury to defender Alaeddine Yahia , he was surprisingly in the starting line-up of the game against HSC Montpellier on November 7, 2010 , making his professional debut. Even after that, he made regular appearances in Ligue 1 , in some of which he also played in defensive midfield. As a result of his convincing performance, he was courted by numerous top English clubs during the winter break of the 2010/11 season . On February 2, 2011, however, he extended his contract prematurely to 2015. On May 7, 2011, he scored his first goal in professional football in a 1-1 draw against SM Caen . Despite good performances from Varane, the RC Lens was relegated at the end of the season and had to go to Ligue 2 .
On June 27, 2011, Varane's move to Spanish record champions Real Madrid was announced. The top clubs Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain had previously shown great interest in signing. The transfer to Madrid finally came about at the instigation of Zinédine Zidane in his role as advisor to the royal family . Varane made his debut on September 21, 2011, the 5th match day of the 2011/12 season , in the 0-0 draw against Racing Santander in the Primera División . On the following game day on September 24, he scored the interim 4-2 in a 6-2 home win over Rayo Vallecano and thus his first goal for the Madrilenians. On September 27, 2011, he made his first appearance on the international stage in the 3-0 victory over Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Champions League .
National team
Varane made his debut on August 24, 2010 in the game against Denmark for the French U-18 national team, in which he made with his goal for the 2-0 final result. As a result, he did without some inserts in the U-18 team, because he wanted to concentrate on his work at Lens, so that he only ran up one more time. He had previously been called up to the U-17 national team, for which he was not used.
On February 8, 2011, Varane played his first game in the jersey of the French U21 national team against Slovakia.
On August 15, 2012, he was appointed to the squad of the senior national team for the international match against Uruguay for the first time , but was not used. In March 2013 he finally made his debut in the World Cup qualifier against Georgia and was in the starting line-up.
In May 2018 Didier Deschamps nominated him for the 2018 World Cup . There he was in the starting line-up in all French games, headed the lead in the 2-0 quarter-final win against Uruguay and won the world title with France after a 4-2 final win against Croatia .
