Career
Club career
Youth and Real Madrid
Dani Carvajal began his career at the small club ADCR Leman's in his native Leganés . At the age of ten he got into the youth department of Real Madrid , where he went through various youth teams from U-12 ( Alevín B ) to A-youth ( Juvenil A ). With the latter he won in the 2009/10 season with a 3: 1 in the final against FC Valencia , the Spanish U-19 Championship . For the 2010/11 season Carvajal went into the squad of the second team Real Madrid Castilla , in which he immediately secured a regular place on the right wing. In his first season he reached the play-offs for promotion to the Segunda División with his team , but failed there on CD Alcoyano . The 2011/12 season was more successful for Carvajal. With his team he won the group stage of Segunda B by 14 points over the second-placed CD Tenerife . In the play-off for promotion to the Segunda División, his team prevailed against FC Cádiz 8-1 on a return leg and Real Madrid Castilla also won the final for the championship title of Segunda División B against CD Mirandés . Dani Carvajal himself was the best assist provider and the player with the most playing time of his team this season.
Move to Bayer Leverkusen
For the 2012/13 season Carvajal moved to the Bundesliga and signed a five-year contract with Bayer 04 Leverkusen . Real Madrid secured a buyback option until 2015. On September 1, 2012, he made his Bundesliga debut for Leverkusen in a 2-0 home win against SC Freiburg and was voted into the kicker - "Eleven of the Day". Carvajal scored his first goal for the Werkself on November 25, 2012 in a 2-1 away win against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . Carvajal convinced right away in Leverkusen . He made 32 appearances in the league and two each in the DFB-Pokal and the Europa League and contributed eight assists in addition to one goal. The newspaper Bild chose Carvajal after the end of the season in the Bundesliga team of the season.
Return to Real Madrid
After the strong performances for Leverkusen, Real Madrid withdrew the agreed buyback option and Carvajal returned to the Spanish record champions. He signed a contract for six seasons until June 30, 2019. In the 2013/14 season, Carvajal and his team won the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League , and in the 2014/15 season the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Championship . He prevailed in the position of right-back against Álvaro Arbeloa and was in the starting line-up in all finals. Before the 2015/16 season , Carvajal extended his contract by one year until June 2020. As a result, the commitment of right-back Danilo and several months of injury pauses could not change his status as a regular player. Under coach Zinédine Zidane , he won a total of nine titles with Real Madrid between 2016 and 2018, including three more Champions League and one championship. In the Champions League finals in 2016 and 2018 , he had to be replaced injured. In September 2017, his contract was prematurely extended until June 2022.
National team
Dani Carvajal made his debut on August 21, 2010 in an international match against Japan in the Spanish U19 national team and won the 2011 U19 European Championship with it . From 2012 to 2014 he was in the squad of the U21 national team and was with this U21 European champion in 2013 .
On September 4, 2014, he played for the first time in the senior national team in a friendly against France and was in the starting line-up. In 2016 Carvajal was included in the provisional squad for the European Championship , but could not take part in the tournament due to an injury.
