The Cádiz Club de Fútbol , known in German-speaking countries as FC Cádiz , is a Spanish football club from Cádiz in Andalusia . The club was founded in 1910 by José Rivera y Lora . The club colors are yellow-blue. Mostly represented in the second division of the Segunda División , the club also played first-class several times, from 1985 to 1993 even eight years in a row. In summer 2020 he returned to the Primera División .
Every year, Cádiz FC organizes the Trofeo Ramón de Carranza tournament in mid-August . The trophy and the stadium bear the name of the former mayor of the city of Cádiz. The tournament, in which teams from the Primera División also take part, is followed with great interest by the Spanish public and the media because it takes place shortly before the season of the Primera División and Segunda División. The first tournament was held in 1955.
The event ends with a large folk festival, the focus of which is a nightly barbecue party, which takes place on Playa Victoria, a large city beach in Cádiz. Cádiz FC has been one of the winners of the tournament seven times (1981, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1993, 1994, 2006).
Stadion
The Estadio Ramón de Carranza was built between May 1954 and August 1955 and had a capacity of 22,000 seats. It was named after a former mayor of Cádiz. It was inaugurated on September 3, 1955 with a game between Cádiz and FC Barcelona , which the eleven from Catalonia won 4-0. In 2005 part of the stadium was modernized and equipped with additional seating capacity.
In November 2006 the last part of the old grandstand was also torn down. However, disputes arose between the club, the city, sponsors and the government over the financing of the new grandstand. However, these problems have now been resolved. The stadium currently has a capacity of 25,033 spectators.
