history
SD Ponferradina was founded in 1922 by the first president of the club, Eustaquio López Boto. Together with Cultural Leonesa , Ponferradina is the top-playing team from the Castile and León region . Both play in Group II of the Segunda División B . In its 80-year tradition, he was promoted to the Segunda División for the first and so far only time . But in Spain's second highest league, the team could not hold up, which is why they had to go back to the 2B as third from bottom. Here they reached first place in the 2007/08 season, but failed in the promotion round to the Segunda División at FC Alicante . Two years later they successfully returned to the second division after the team finished the 2009/10 season as runner-up in Segunda División B, Group 1 and eliminated UE Sant Andreu on penalties in the subsequent play-offs . The final of the third division championship against FC Granada was lost 1-0, but the team was promoted to runner-up.
