The Segunda División 2019/20 (officially LaLiga SmartBank ) is the 89th season of the Spanish second division. The season began in August 2019. The champions were SD Huesca , which rose to the Primera División together with FC Cádiz and FC Elche . In the Segunda División B had to dismount CD Numancia , Deportivo La Coruna , Extremadura UD and Racing Santander .
Before the season
The 22 teams meet twice on 42 match days. The two best teams go straight to the Primera División. The teams in places three to six determine the third promoted player in the play-offs. Reserve teams are not eligible for promotion. The last four clubs are relegated.
Relegated from the Primera División of taking FC Girona , the SD Huesca and Rayo Vallecano part. Moved up from the Segunda División B are CF Fuenlabrada , Racing Santander , the SD Ponferradina and CD Mirandés .

Promotion play-offs
In the play-offs, the teams in places three to six of the regular season take part. In the semi-finals, the sixth against the third and the fourth against the fifth, the two winners play against each other in two finals. The winner qualifies as the third promoted player for the Primera División 2020/21 . The first leg was played on August 13, the second leg on August 16, 2020. On the other hand, the two finals took place on August 20 and 23.
