In the championship year he played two league games. In the mid-season 2005 five more games followed with Stuani's participation. In 2005/06 he met four times in 15 missions. In Uruguay he then completed a loan position at Bella Vista in the Segunda División in the 2006/07 season . There he had an extremely successful record with twelve goals in 14 games. For Danubio he then played the Apertura 2007. In the 2007/08 season, Stuani was the top scorer in the Primera División with 19 goals scored . For this he only needed 14 games in the first half of the season.

At the beginning of January 2008 his path took him to Europe in the middle of the season. There he joined the Italian club Reggina Calcio . While he made twelve goalless appearances in his first season with the Italians - including eleven substitutions - he was only considered six times in the following year, but scored his only goal for this club. In the 2009/10 season he was on loan to Albacete Balompié in Spain . With 22 hits in 39 or 40 contested games, depending on the sources, of which he was in the starting line-up in 38 games, he was significantly more successful in this engagement in the Liga Adelante . In 2010/11 he was loaned from Reggina to Levante UD . 30 games in the league with eight goals are there for him to book. From August 2011 until the end of the 2011/12 season he played on loan for Racing Santander . In the 2011/12 Copa del Rey, he scored four goals there. On March 1, 2015, he extended his contract with the Spanish club for another two years until June 30, 2018. In July 2015, however, he agreed on a move with the English club Middlesbrough FC , which was confirmed in early August. According to the club, the transfer fee was three million euros. For the English, he was used in 36 league games in the 2015/16 season and scored seven goals. He also scored four goals in three League Cup appearances and played one game (no goal) in the FA Cup . His club rose as second in the Football League Championship in the Premier League. In the following Premier League season he met four times in 23 first division appearances in the opposing goal.

With 21 goals in 33 games, he was the club's top scorer in the 2017/18 La Liga season and finished fifth in the scorers' list. In the following season , he scored 19 goals in 32 games, no other player in the club scored more goals that season. His club FC Girona relegated to the Segunda División at the end of the season .
