Gorka Iraizoz Moreno (born March 6, 1981 in Pamplona , Navarra ) is a Spanish football player who has played for FC Girona in the Spanish Primera División since 2017 . Before that, Iraizoz played for Athletic Bilbao for ten years .

Career

Initially, Iraizoz had played for lower-class Basque teams before Athletic Bilbao noticed him. There he was assigned to the 2nd team, but not used. He was drawn back to deeper football regions to the Gernika Club , where he became a regular goalkeeper at the age of 20. This led to a commitment by the Spanish first division club Espanyol Barcelona .

He played for Espanyol B for two years and was then loaned to SD Eibar . In the following season he signed a professional contract with Espanyol and was regularly used as a substitute keeper in the league and in the Copa del Rey for the next two years . His international breakthrough came as a regular goalkeeper in the UEFA Cup with several spectacular parades in the second leg at Benfica Lisbon (0-0).

With the ambition of finally being part of the permanent staff in Spain's elite league, Iraizoz moved to his former club Athletic Bilbao in August 2008 . Due to a protracted thigh injury, however, he was out for the rest of the season, so Armando was a substitute from Cádiz FC . In the 2008/09 season, Iraizoz was the goalkeeper with 36 league appearances.

So far, Gorka Iraizoz has played four games for the unofficial national team of the Basque Country . He made his debut in a 4-0 victory over the Serbian national team on December 27, 2006.
