Sociedad Deportiva Eibar is a Spanish football club from the small town of Eibar , with a population of 27,000 , in the Guipúzcoa province , Basque Country . The club colors are blue and red.

The club was founded on November 30, 1940 and played in the 2013/14 season in the Segunda División , Spain's second-highest division. In this the association has been active for a total of 25 years, 18 of them in a row between 1988 and 2006. On May 25, 2014, the club made its first promotion to the Primera División in its 75-year history and thus made it through to the third division into the first division.

The SD Eibar caused a stir internationally with its rise, because never before had a club from such a small town played in Spain's highest league. Among other things, the association launched an appeal for donations in order to be able to show the minimum assets of 2.1 million euros required by the league. Professional soccer player Xabi Alonso is a shareholder in SD Eibar, for whom he played in the first half of the 2000/01 season. He bought shares in the club to help them get their first division license. His father Periko Alonso had worked as a coach for SD Eibar in the second division for three years.

In the 2014/15 season , SD Eibar rose to 18th place on the last matchday. sporty. But because the better placed FC Elche did not receive a license for the 2015/16 season , they stayed in the league. This could be finished in 14th place. In the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons , the club was able to improve slightly by placing it in 10th and 9th position. The season 2018/19 ended Eibar ranked 12th
