history

The Estadio Municipal de Ipurua was inaugurated on September 14, 1947 to serve as a competition stadium for the local association SD Eibar, founded in 1940. The opening game against CD Elgoibar ended 0-2. Construction of the main stand on the south side of the venue began in 1948 and was completed three years later. In 1970 the floodlight system was installed.

For the 1988/89 season, the SD Eibar rose to the Segunda División , a division in which the club should hold for 18 seasons; a total of 25 years so far. On May 25, 2014, the club made its first promotion to the Primera División in its 75-year history and thus made it through to the third division into the first division.

In 1998, the municipality began a comprehensive renovation of the stadium with financial support from the league association RFEF . Among other things, the main grandstand was demolished and rebuilt, which now offers space for around 2,800 spectators. A covered tier was also built on the north side. After the end of the work in 2000, the stadium now had 7,083 seats.
