The Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes is a football stadium in the southern Spanish city of Granada , Autonomous Community of Andalusia . It is the sporting home of the Granada CF club and the Granada Atlético reserve team (since 2009).
history
The stadium, inaugurated on May 16, 1995, replaced the old Estadio de Los Cármenes venue from the 1930s. As is often the case in Spain, only the main stand is covered. The stands are connected with concrete bridges in the stadium corners. The first game in the 16,200-seat arena (all seats) was played on June 6, 1995. There met Real Madrid and Bayer 04 Leverkusen (1: 0) for a friendly match against each other. The first game of Granada CF took place on August 22, 1995 against Betis Sevilla . It was about the Trofeo Ciudad de Granada ( German : Cup of the City of Granada ) and Granada won 4-1. In February 1996 the stadium hosted the opening ceremony of the Alpine World Ski Championships . After the club's last promotion to the Primera División in 2011, the stadium's capacity was expanded to 22,524. It currently has space for 19,336 fans.
In addition to the football games, concerts are also held in the sports complex. The multipurpose hall Palacio Municipal de Deportes de Granada, which was inaugurated in 1991 and has 7,358 seats, is located right next to the stadium .
