The Palacio Municipal de Deportes de Granada ( German  Municipal Sports Hall of Granada ) is a sports hall in the Spanish city ​​of Granada , Andalusia . The basketball club CB Granada played its home games indoors from 1994 until it was closed in 2012. The Palacio with 7,358 seats is located in the immediate vicinity of the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes , the home ground of the FC Granada football club, inaugurated in 1995 .

The hall, which is located on Carretera de La Zubia , was inaugurated in 1991 and is designed for several sports such as basketball , handball , volleyball , futsal , motocross , motorcycle trials and ice hockey . It also serves as a venue for music concerts . In addition to the 7,358 spectator seats, the building also has a VIP area, six bars , 54 seats for journalists , a press conference room and four changing rooms (240 square meters with 188 lockers , four massage tables, 32 showers, 12 toilets and 10 washbasins). A video cube is hung under the hall ceiling .

Events

In 1992 the final eight tournament in the Spanish basketball cup Copa del Rey de Baloncesto took place in Granada. In 1995 the final tournament of the cup made another stop in the Palacio Municipal . The first international sporting event was the 1999 European Futsal Championship , the games of which were held entirely in Granada. In the Spanish basketball Supercup Supercopa de España de Baloncesto, the CB Granada was defeated in 2005 in its own hall against Saski Baskonia with 55:61. Two years later, the Palacio Municipal de Deportes de Granada hosted group A of the 2007 European Basketball Championship . The final of the Spanish Futsal Cup Copa de España de Fútbol Sala in 2009 was played by record champions Inter Movistar from Madrid and ElPozo Murcia Turística (5: 3) in the sports hall.

From August 30th to September 14th, Spain will host the 2014 World Basketball Championship . In addition to the Palacio Municipal de Deportes de Granada, the 17th world title fights will be held in five other venues in Barcelona , Bilbao , Madrid , Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Seville .

The following year, Granada will host the 2015 Winter Universiade , with the hall being the venue for the final of the ice hockey tournament.
