The Estadio Carlos Tartiere (Official name: Estadio Municipal Carlos Tartiere ) is a football stadium in the northern Spanish city of Oviedo , Autonomous Community of Asturias . It has seats for 30,500 spectators and serves as the home ground for the local football club Real Oviedo . Furthermore, it offers 22 VIP - boxes and 200 seats in the presidential box .

history

The Estadio Nuevo Carlos Tartiere was built in 2000 as the successor to the Estadio Carlos Tartiere . The previous stadium was built in 1932 and last had a capacity of 22,500 spectators. It was a venue for the 1982 World Cup , where Italy celebrated its third World Cup title. The games of Chile against Austria (0: 1), Algeria against Austria (0: 2) and Algeria against Chile (3: 2) took place in Oviedo . After the preliminary round, the Estadio Carlos Tartiere was no longer taken into account, so that it remained with these three World Cup games for the smallest World Cup stadium from 1982. The old stadium in Oviedo was also used by the Spanish national soccer team as the venue for an international match that they won against Yugoslavia in 1932 . In 1958 it was renamed Estadio Carlos Tartiere in honor of the late President of Real Oviedo, Carlos Tartiere , after having previously been named Estadio Buenavista . Finally, in 2000, after 68 years, the Estadio Carlos Tartiere was demolished and replaced by a new stadium in Oviedo. The last game in the old stadium was played by Real Oviedo and Real Sociedad San Sebastián .

Entrance to the stadium

When the new stadium in Oviedo was built, Real Oviedo was just at the height of his sporting career with the constant stay in the Primera División . But already in the first season in the new stadium there was relegation from the first division. After that, the club, which once played Spanish football greats such as Luis Aragonés and Isidro Lángara or the Argentine Maxi Rodríguez , sank into insignificance, as they had to be relegated to the Tercera División in the 2002/03 second division season after the players' salaries were not paid could. In the following years it went up and down for the club between the Segunda División B and the Tercera División. Since the club was now playing in a lower class, the investments for the stadium were not profitable, as it is not very busy due to the lack of class at Real Oviedo and the more than 30,000 seats are almost never filled.

In the new arena in Oviedo, three qualifying matches for European and World Championships took place. Spain won 4-1 against Bosnia-Herzegovina on June 2, 2001 after goals from Fernando Hierro , Javi Moreno, Raúl and Diego Tristán , while Xavi and Fernando Torres scored 2-0 against Latvia on September 12, 2007. In addition, the U-21 team won 2-0 against Poland on September 4, 2009, with José Luis Mato and Daniel Parejo scoring the goals. Since then, Real Oviedo has played a maximum of second division games at the Estadio Nuevo Carlos Tartiere.
