The Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas is a football stadium in the Spanish capital, Madrid . It is the home ground of the Rayo Vallecano football club . The facility is located in the south of the city in the Vallecas district and has a capacity of 14,708 spectators.
history
The Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas was inaugurated on May 10, 1976, on the grounds of the old Estadio de Vallecas , as Nuevo Estadio de Vallecas with a game between the home team and Real Valladolid . At that time it had a capacity of around 20,000 spectators. In 1996 it was renovated and converted into a pure seating stadium, the capacity was reduced to 15,500 seats. In 1999, the name was changed after the incumbent president of Rayo Vallecano since 1994 and wife of the Spanish entrepreneur José María Ruiz Mateos , Teresa Rivero Sánchez-Romate . In 2011, the fences that separated the tiers from the pitch were removed. Since the bottom row of seats also had to give way, the stadium's capacity was reduced to 14,708 seats. The name of the venue was also changed to Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas after a referendum among members of the home club after the Ruiz Mateos family sold their shares in the club.
As of September 2018, the autonomous community of Madrid closed the venue to spectators because it was in disrepair. From September 1st of the year until the completion of the work, no events with an audience were allowed. One of the reasons for this was probably the fall of a child over the remaining rubble in the standing area on the first match day of the 2018/19 season against Sevilla FC . The child was unharmed. So urgently needed renovation work was due. The renovation lasted until mid-October and cost an estimated 1.2 million euros.
The Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas was also used several times for concerts (including 1980 Bob Dylan , 1986 Queen ).
Location and public transport
