The Estadi Municipal de Montilivi is the municipal football stadium in the Spanish city of Girona . Girona is located in the northeast of the autonomous region of Catalonia on the eastern tip of Spain. The FC Girona welcomes its opponents here.
history
At the beginning of the 1967/68 season it was decided to build a new football stadium. The grand opening took place on August 14, 1970. FC Barcelona was a guest at the inauguration of the sports facility and defeated the hosts 3-1. 25,000 spectators gathered in the new building for the game. In the following days the Trofeo Costa Brava was held for the first time , this competition takes place almost annually to this day. In the semi-finals, Borussia Neunkirchen and FC Valencia met, and Espanyol Barcelona faced the Argentine club CA San Lorenzo de Almagro . San Lorenzo won the final against Neunkirchen 5-0.
Except for part of the main stand, the stadium is uncovered. Up until the 2009/10 season, the facility held around 10,000 spectators, mostly standing. The league association Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) requested some improvements to the stadium. The standing rooms were to be converted into seats, a room for doping control should be available, the press stand modernized and security at the entrance and in the stadium improved.
Today the stadium is equipped with red plastic seats and holds around 9,500 spectators. Next to the stadium is a small playing field measuring 90 × 45 meters. There are also a few tennis and basketball courts.
