The Estadio Ramón de Carranza is a football stadium in the Spanish city of Cádiz , Andalusia . It is the home ground of the FC Cadiz soccer club .

history

It was built between May 1954 and August 1955 and had a capacity of 22,000 seats. It is named after Ramón de Carranza , a former mayor of Cádiz. It was inaugurated on September 3, 1955 with a game between Cádiz and FC Barcelona , which the eleven from Catalonia won 4-0.

In 2005, part of the stadium was modernized and equipped with additional seats, so that there has been space for 25,033 spectators since then.

In a vote, the system is to be given a new name. Supporters of FC Cádiz want to name them after ex-soccer player Michael Robinson who died of cancer at the end of April 2020 . Robinson never played for Cádiz FC, but thanks to his decades of expertise in Spanish sports media, he enjoyed great popularity in the country, especially in Cádiz. He was named the son of the city and is said to have been involved in the placement of some players for FC Cádiz. The city has taken note of the concerns of the fans in the social networks and wants to have the new name determined in a vote among the supporters. There will also be other suggested names in the election.
