The Estadio Francisco de la Hera is a football stadium in the Spanish city ​​of Almendralejo , Badajoz Province , Extremadura Autonomous Community . It has been the home ground of the Extremadura UD football club since 2010 .

history

The first permanent venue of FC Extremadura was the Campo de Santa Aurora between 1928 and 1934. After that, the club was located in Campo Santa Elvira . The original Estadio Francisco de la Hera was built in the early 1950s and was inaugurated on October 12, 1951 with the home team's game against Sevilla FC . Little changed in the system until the 1990s. In 1996 the old stadium was demolished and rebuilt due to the promotion of FC Extremadura to the Primera División 1996/97 . On September 9, 1996 the Estadio Francisco de la Hera was inaugurated with the game FC Extremadura against Betis Sevilla . The construction cost 400 million pts . Both the main and the opposite stands are covered over almost their entire length. The back doors are without protection against wind and weather. Today it offers 11,580 seats for spectators. In 2010, FC Extremadura was dissolved due to financial problems. As its successor, Extremadura UD uses the stadium to host their home games.
