The Segunda División 1979/80 was the 49th season of the second highest Spanish football league . It began on September 2, 1979 and ended on June 1, 1980. Real Murcia became the champions .
Before the season
The 20 teams met twice on 38 match days. The three best teams rose to the Primera División . The last four clubs were relegated.
Relegated from the Primera División took Celta Vigo , Racing Santander and Recreativo Huelva in part. From the Segunda División B came Gimnàstic de Tarragona , Levante , Real Oviedo and Palencia CF .
