Real Club Recreativo de Huelva is a Spanish football club from Huelva , Andalusia . The club was founded on December 23, 1889, making it the oldest football club in Spain.

history

Recreativo de Huelva was founded on December 23, 1889 by Alexander McKay and British miners from the Rio Tinto Group . Gimnàstic de Tarragona was founded in 1886, but only had an official football team in 1914. On March 8, 1890, the first official soccer match took place in Seville at the Tablada Hippodrome . At the invitation of the newly founded Sevilla FC , a team made up of British and Spanish workers, Recreativo de Huelva formed its own football team for the first time and lost the first Spanish football game according to the rules of Association Football with 0-2. With the exception of two Spanish players on the Huelva side, all players were of British origin.

Until 1903 the club carried the English-language club name "Huelva Recreation Club", which was subsequently Hispanicized . In the following years, the club in Andalusia was successful on a regional level and won several championships in cup mode. In 1939 the club rose to the Segunda División for the first time , but stayed here for only one season. After the renewed rise in 1957, the club fluctuated between second and third league level, only from 1961 the team stayed in the league for over seven years. In 1974 the team returned to the Segunda Division, and four years later the club made it to the Primera División for the first time . After re-direct descent, the association placed in the following years in the rear table portion of the second division, in the 1990s he played sometimes only in the third-tier Segunda División B . In 2002, the second promotion to the top division took place, the end of the season was marked by double success: on the one hand, the team again missed relegation, on the other hand, they moved into the final of the Copa del Rey . Against RCD Mallorca , the team coached by Lucas Alcaraz missed their first national title win with a 3-0 defeat. After the third first division promotion in 2006 under coach Marcelino García , the club held three seasons in the Primera Division, but rose again in 2015 in the third division.

Trofeo Colombino

The association holds its own summer tournament, which has been held annually since 1965. The record holder is the host Recreativo itself with ten titles. See winners and finalists .
