Universidad Católica de Murcia Club de Fútbol is a Spanish football club from the city of Murcia in the region of the same name . The club, founded in 1999, currently plays in the Segunda División and holds its home games at La Condomina .
history
UCAM Murcia was founded in 1999 and played in the fourth-class Tercera División from 2000 to 2005 . At that time, the also very young club Costa Cálida CF played in the fourth division and for the 2011/2012 season the two clubs were merged in order to establish themselves as a large club in the region. It was immediately followed by promotion to the third division, from which they were relegated again the next season. However, they managed to get promoted and established themselves in the league. In 2015/2016, he was promoted to the second division as league champions, after beating Real Madrid Castilla in the promotion playoffs and then winning the third division championship against FC Reus .
Rivalries
UCAM Murcia's local rival is the older and more well-known club in the city, Real Murcia . Since UCAM is still a very young club and has risen very quickly in Spain's league system, it is a new rivalry. The only previous direct duels of the two clubs took place in the 2015/2016 season, the third-tier Segunda División B instead. UCAM lost the first leg at home 1–2, but were able to get a 1–0 win over their rivals in the second leg. At the end of the season, UCAM rose six points ahead of Real Murcia as first in the table.
