history

Club formation

The CD Badajoz was founded on August 15, 1905. This makes it the oldest club in all of Extremadura . The club was made up of the two clubs Racing and Sport . Francisco Fernández Marquesta gave the team its first pitch, the mythical "Estadio El Vivero".

Segunda División

For the first time CD Badajoz was able to play in the Segunda División in the 1953/1954 season . The club held for seven years in the second highest Spanish league before relegating in 1960. After a few years break, they returned to League 2 in 1965. This was the beginning of an ups and downs. Badajoz was immediately relegated and promoted again the following year. But after just one year again, starting in 1968, they disappeared from professional football for a long time.

It would take a quarter of a century to return to the Segunda División in 1992/93 . There the team was able to hold onto second-rate eleven years in a row until 2003, even several times with the possibility of promotion to the first division.

Financial crash

Badajoz faced major financial problems in the 2004/2005 season. Thanks to the help of the population, the dissolution of the association could be prevented. Even though there are now several other clubs in the region, CD Badajoz remains the club that best represents the city.

But just a year later, on July 31, 2006, the club's largest shareholder, Eloy Guerrero, announced that the players could no longer be paid. Due to the precarious financial season, he was forced to fall into the Tercera División due to insolvency.

Most recently, the club was in financial restructuring thanks to the help of some fans who worked for the club for free, but the club was dissolved in 2012 due to bankruptcy and then re-founded as Club Deportivo Badajoz in 1905.

Stadion

The CD Badajoz plays in the Estadio Nuevo Vivero , which has a capacity of 14,500 spectators. The stadium was inaugurated on December 2, 1998 in a friendly against CF Extremadura. The game ended 0-0. The first official game was a 1-0 loss to CD Toledo in the Segunda División . The first goalscorer for Badajoz was Carlos Torres.

The first international match in the new stadium took place in 1999 between Spain and Cyprus. The duel ended 8-0 for the Iberians.
