The Estadio Nuevo Vivero is a football stadium in the Spanish city of Badajoz . With a capacity of 15,598 spectators, it is the largest in Extremadura and serves as the home of the CD Badajoz association .
history
The construction of the Estadio Nuevo Vivero, which was supposed to replace the old Estadio El Vivero , began in September 1997. The new venue was built southwest of the city area, on the southern bank of the Guadiana as part of the sports complex Ciudad Deportiva Municipal La Granadilla . The playing field is enclosed by two spectator stands, only the main stand on the west side of the stadium is covered. The opening ceremony took place on December 2, 1998 with a game between the home team CD Badajoz and local rivals FC Extremadura , which ended with a 0-0. On September 8, 1999, the Spanish national team played a European qualifying match against Cyprus in the new stadium , and the home side won the match 8-0.
