The beginnings

Born in Asturias, Mario Cotelo comes from the youth of Sporting Gijón . After three years in the B-Team of the Asturians, he made the leap to the first team in 1996. In his first professional playing time he was loaned to the then second division CD Badajoz , where he was able to earn a regular place immediately. After his return to Sporting, who had meanwhile been relegated and also played in the Segunda División , he also played there mostly in the starting line-up and made 162 appearances.

Seville & Follow

In 2001 he got the opportunity to play first-class for the first time in his career and so it attracted Mario Cotelo to promoted Sevilla FC , where he was only used in five league games under coach Joaquín Caparrós . So it happened that the Asturian was loaned to Segunda División - Club UD Las Palmas for the second half of the 2002/2003 season. There he found his way back to his old strength. In the summer of 2003, the players and club took the consequences of the unsuccessful engagement and Mario Cotelo went to the second division club Getafe .

Getafe CF

With the Madrid suburban club, he was promoted to the first division in 2003/2004, where Mario Cotelo has played over 100 times so far. Among other things, he reached the Spanish Cup final with his team and under the direction of the German coach Bernd Schuster in 2007, but lost 0-1 to FC Sevilla . In the 2007/2008 season, Mario Cotelo and his team will play in the UEFA Cup for the first time . In the 2008/09 season he was no longer considered and only came to two short appearances at the end of the season. He then ended his career.
