Career

society

Ikechukwu Uche came in 2001 from the Nigerian club Iwuanyanwu Nationale to the Spanish second division Racing de Ferrol . He made his debut on January 19, 2003 against UD Levante and had a regular place on the team a month later. His first goal was on February 23, 2003 against Real Oviedo . When Ferrol was relegated at the end of the season, he moved to the second division club Recreativo Huelva for 300,000 euros . He had a regular place with his new club from the start and scored a total of 22 goals in 74 missions in the first two seasons. In the 2005/06 season he increased his quota significantly and was top scorer in the second division with 20 goals in 28 games at the end of the season. He also had a large share in the rise as a second division champion in the Primera División .

In the top division of the country, he came in his first season with Huelva to eight goals and five assists in 31 missions and finished eighth with Huelva in the championship. For the 2007/08 season he moved to league rivals Getafe FC for an unknown transfer fee and signed a three-year contract there. In the summer of 2009 he moved to Real Zaragoza , which had just been promoted to the Primera División. There he injured his knee on the 2nd matchday against Sevilla FC and only made his comeback on the 34th matchday. In preparation for the 2010/11 season he injured his knee again and was out until the second half of the season.

Also due to the injury, he was never really able to assert himself in Zaragoza and only made 18 league appearances in two seasons. For the 2011/12 season , the league competitor FC Villarreal signed him for four years, but was immediately loaned to the league competitor and promoted FC Granada .

National team

Uche made his debut under Berti Vogts in August 2007 against Macedonia in the Nigerian national team and a few months later was part of the Nigerian squad at the Africa Cup of 2008 in Ghana. During the tournament he made three appearances there, including the 1: 2 defeat in the quarter-finals against hosts Ghana. In qualifying for the 2010 World Cup , Uche was the top Nigerian goalscorer with four goals scored together with Victor Obinna . For the World Cup finals , he was appointed to the 30-man provisional squad by coach Lars Lagerbäck , but did not make it into the 23-player World Cup squad due to his knee injury at Saragossa. Previously, due to this injury, he had already missed a possible participation in the Africa Cup 2010 .

Others

His older brother Kalu (* 1982) is also a professional football player.
